The club typically marches in two parades each year: St. Patrick’s Day Parade held in Boston, MA in March, and The Feast of the Blessed Sacrament parade held in New Bedford, MA in early August. Members are encouraged to attend. Transportation, food and beverages are provided by the club. Upcoming parades, along with required uniform and other details, are posted to the home page calendar some months prior to the event.
The annual dinner dance is held each March on the Saturday preceding St Patrick’s day. In addition to being one of the major fund-raising events the club conducts, it is also the forum used to recognize member and person of the year awardees. Tickets to the event are available to members at the general meeting and to the public through the following contact: email@example.com
Members and their families are invited each summer to the annual family picnic. The club provides food, beverages, entertainment and prizes for a small member contribution, typically $10/family.
New Bedford Half Marathon
The organization of the New Bedford Half Marathon was taken on by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in 2008. The club receives enthusiastic support and assistance from Mayor Scott Lang and the City of New Bedford in running this event.
The annual 13.1 mile race is held in New Bedford, Massachusetts each year in March. The 2010 field was the largest ever for the event, with 2,665 runners officially entering the race. The previous largest turnout for the event was in 2002, when 2,073 runners eventually crossed the finish line. The Friendly Sons have established a dedicated New Bedford Half Marathon website which provides more details.
The event also serves as a platform for presenting the scholarship awards to recipients in a brief ceremony prior to commencing the tournament. Pics of the ceremony at the CY08 golf tournament can be seen here. Details on this year’s event will post on the calendar of events prior to June.
